A gold medieval half-noble of Edward III, dating to the period AD 1346-1351. Third coinage. Obverse depicts the king standing facing forward in a ship, crowned and armoured, he holds a sword in right hand and a shield of England and France in left hand. Inscription: EDWAR D GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC DNS HYB. The reverse depicts a floriated cross with a fleur-de-lys at the end of each arm and an ornamented compartment containing a closed E in centre of cross. In each angle is a lion passant, guardant with a crown above. all is within a double tressure. The inscription reads DOMINE NE IN FRVORE TVO ARGVAS ME.
