A medieval silver penny of Henry III dating to AD 1222-1236 (Class 7b). hENRICVS REX obverse depicting a crowned and bearded bust facing. The crown has 4 pellets acros and a cross above the central pellet. There are three curls on each side of the head without pellets in them. Sceptre in king's right hand. SIMVN ON CANTE reverse depicting a voided short cross with a quatrefoil in each quarter. Mint of Canterbury. North 979 (North, JJ, 1980, English Hammered Coins Volume One, Spink & Son Ltd, London p 180, no 979).
