A copper alloy military button of 12th (The Prince of Wales's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoon (Lancers) dating to c AD 1822-1832. The front of the button is convex and depicts crossed lances with pennants and the number 12 in the centre. The back of the button is concave with a circular loop attached in the centre and E JONES CORK HILL round the inside edge. The maker was based in Dublin and traded as E Jones from AD 1822-1832. The 12th Dragoons were given lances in AD 1816, suggesting the button is not earlier than that, and were in Ireland at various times between AD 1820-1834 which matches with the dates of the manufacturer's business. The button weighs 1.92g and measures 16.24mm in diameter and 7,31mm in height.
