A complete modern copy of a gold uninscribed stater of the Southern Region / Belgae, c. 60-20 BC, 'Cheriton Smiler' type.

Obverse: Wreath split by three corded lines, leading to 'turf cutter'. A small stamped F is present within the 'turf cutter' motif.

Reverse: Disjointed horse left, multiple horizontal tails, pellets above, crab motif below.

XRF analysis has been carried out using a tabletop Mistral XRF machine at the Conservation Laboratory, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Two locations were checked on the obverse and one on the reverse. This has determined that this coin is a gold plated copper alloy copy of a gold Cheriton Smiler stater.
