An incomplete Post-Medieval lead cloth seal, probably dating to c. AD 1550-1800. All that survives of the seal is one incomplete disc and its integral circular rivet. The seal survives in part on the front of the seal, stamped in low relief. The design features a a W in the left field, with thin curvilinear element curving around below at and continuing off of the surviving disc. Around the bttom edge of the disc ran an inscription, now illegible but containing the letter E (by which the design is orientated) at roughly 6 o'clock. 17[...] is incised into the reverse of the rivet, although this is more likely to refer to a measure than a date.
Dimensions: length 20.5mm; width 14.7mm; thickness 2.8mm; weight 3.83g.
No exact parallel has been found for this seal, although it is probably the personal seal of a Clothier, Weaver or Searcher. See for example a number of comparable examples published by Egan (1994: 182-183).
