An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle and plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. It is of Meols type 12d, with a broadly rectangular frame that expands towards its outer edge, with an offset recessed strap bar and sheet roller on the outer edge of the frame. Attached to the strap-bar is a folded sheet metal plate, with a circular-sectioned copper-alloy rivet in its back edge (securing the two edges of the plate together) and a circular aperture at its junction with the strap bar designed to accomodate the pin, which is iron and survives only partially. Inside the sheet plate, the remnants of a degraded leather strap are visible. Preserved in fair condition with an even green patina, it measures 38.45mm long, the frame 14.78mm wide from its front edge to strap bar, 15.75mm wide at the midpoint of the plate, 2.70mm thick at the midpoint of the plate, and weighs 7.05g.
A very similar buckle is published by Egan (2007), p. 99, no. 723.
