THIMBLE

Unique ID: BERK-91DC75

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete but distorted silver sewing thimble of post-medieval date (c. AD 1750-1900). The upper part of the outer face of this thimble has machine-made horizontal lines of circular indentations. The crown has concentric rings of machine-made circular indentations. The lower part has inscribed decoration consisting of incised or chased foliate scrolls divided by a crude lozenge-shaped cartouche, probably where the owner's initials could have been carved. The basal opening has an applied silver band that fits over the main silver sheet of the thimble.

As this object is under 300 years old and was a casual loss, therefore not buried with the intention of recovery, it does not qualify as treasure.
