Medieval strap end, cast copper alloy, incomplete. The strap end is base on the Late Medieval 'lyre shaped' buckles as found at Meols (Griffiths et. al. 2007, Pl. 17, No. 765). The strap was fitted into a square socket through which are two, 2.6mm diameter, rivet holes. On one of its faces is lettering in black letter, or pseudo black letter style. This cannot be read. The other face is plain. Separated from the socket by a deep groove are truncated remains of a decorative plate, only part of the central secttion survives, it is likely that two lateral elements are missing. The central section bears chip-carved decoraton which might represent a human face along with chevron lines. Length 49.5mm, Width 25.2mm, Thickness 6.2mm, Mass 16.57g
