Cast copper alloy Early Medieval dress hook or fastener (c. 600-1150AD). The item is roughly triangular in shape and tapers to a sharp hooked point at the end, the tip of which is missing. The surface is decorated with a ring and dot motif consisting of 10 individual ringed dots, enclosed within an incised border which consists of a thin line close to the edge of the item that follows its shape.
The back is plan and undecorated. The top edge is engrailed and three holes in a line are situated close to the edge - one on either side and the third in the centre. These would have been used to secure the hook to textile or clothing.
The artefact is an example of Read's Class A Type 1, and likely dates to the Early Medieval period (c. 7th to early 12th century)
