~~Copper alloy late roman buckle plate. This is roughly triangular in form and is decorated with an openwork pattern of three interconnecting trumpets, this is shown using a trefoil in the centre from which the trumpets emanates to curve round and finish with the bell of each trumpet terminating in a different corner. At the base of the plate is a transverse bar that holds two evenly spaced forward facing loops. These loops would have held the axis bar for the buckle.
Openwork buckle plates decorated with trumpet motifs are vary rare finds with examples utilising simple or geometric openwork patters being more common. See SWYOR-AF4D93, NCL-2DE681for similar examples.
The reverse of each of the trumpets is concave. There are two integral rivets on the reverse, these have a circular cross section with an expanded domed head.
