VESSEL

Unique ID: SF-55A1C8

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A fragmentary sherd (in two separate pieces) from the base of a Roman Gaulish samian ware vessel. It is a pinkish-orange colour and the slip a glossy reddish-brown. The fabric is hard and fine with few visible inclusions apart from occasional chalky white fragments and fine mica. It has a choncoidal fracture.

The two fragments align and so are clear part of the same sherd.

It is likely to be of South Gaulish manufacture.
