A flint waisted tool of Early Neolithic date, 4000-3500.
Description: The tool has a wide rounded scraping/working edge which narrows forming a long rectangular 'shank/tang' and is semi-circular in cross-section. The retouch along the scraping edge can be described as long scaled semi-abrupt.is primarily on the dorsal face. Along the edge of the rectangular 'shank/tank' has invasive scaled crossed abrupt retouch and also has 'crushing' to blunt the edges. The dorsal face has cortex covering much of rectangular end with some creeping onto the left part of the working dge. The ventral face has been heavily worked over flattening it and removing the bulbs of percussion, likely to make the tool easier to use. The tool is mottled dark grey through to light blue white.
Measurements: 60.23mm long, 36.5mm wide (along the scraping edge, 25.14mm wide along the rectangular end), 15.73mm thick and 37.67g in weight.
Discussion: The precise function of these tools is uncertain however they are illustrated by Butler (2005, 134, fig. 56.5) who dates them to the Early neolithic
