An incomplete copper alloy and iron terminal, probably from a knife, probably of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1800).
The copper alloy part consists of two sub rectangular sheets of metal on either side of an iron tang, held together by one circular sectioned copper alloy rivet. No decoration is present on either sheet of copper alloy metal. Due to corrosion products on the iron tang, it is hard to determine the original shape, but it probably had a square terminal.
The copper alloy sheets measure 21.3 mm in length and 18.6 mm wide. The whole artefact measures 35.4 mm in length, 18.6 mm wide (maximum), 15.0 mm wide (minimum) and 9.2 mm thick. It weighs 10.9 g.
The copper alloy is a dark green colour, and the iron tang is a mid brown colour, covered with corrosion products.
It is probable that this artefact is a plain knife end cap, from a scale tang knife, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1800). No direct parallel to this artefact has been found at the time of recording.
