A heavily worn and abraded cast discoidal button of 17th century date.
Description: The button is discoidal with a flattened convex and convex back. The front has an irregular incised 6 pointed star within a circle of small crescent, dots and large crscents in the angles. The revers has a rectangular-section shank wtiha rounded end, the suspension loop is covered with iron corossion of uncertain origin. The entire button is a bright green typical of patinated copper-alloy.
Measurements: 25.42mm in diameter, 8.5mm thick and 6.72g in weight.
Discussion: The general form of this button fits a group of 17th century buttons illustrated by Read (2005, 39-45) no. 156 is almost identical.
