A small abraded fragment of a late Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axehead, probably dating to 1100-800 BC. The fragment is sub rectangular in plan and triangular in cross section. Only between the cutting edge and internal socket end survives. Although very worn, the cutting edge survives intact and runs in a very shallow convex curve, the blade tips do not flare outwards. The internal socket end has a very narrow sub-rectangular cross section, with rounded ends.
Dimensions: Length20.4mm; Width41.3mm; Thickness 11.0mm; Weight: 29.02g.
Although the fragment is too small to be certain, it probably fits into the Ewart park or Wilburton metal working groups, giving it a date of 1100-800 BC (Schmidt & Burgess 1981: 119).
