An incomplete cast copper-alloy bow brooch of Colchester derivative rear-hook type dating to the Roman period, c. 43-100 AD. It demonstrates a hemi-spherically sectioned winged head, with each side demonstrating a single oblique moulding of reeded decoration. The chord, axis bar and pin are missing in old damage. The bow is 'D' shaped in section, demonstrating a central moulded longitudinal ridge with reeded motifs down its entire length, which extends to the foot of the brooch. From the rear face of the object, the remains of the catchplate extend. Preserved in fair condition with an even green patina, it measures 38.18mm long, 25.10mm wide at its head, and 4.41mm thick at the midpoint of the bow. It weighs 8.86g.
A practically identical brooch is illustrated by Mackreth (2011) vol. II, p. 43, pl. 40, no. 910.
