A fragment of the base of a Roman ceramic vessel, dating from the third fourth century AD. The fragment is part of a pedestal base for an undetermined vessel, probably a jug. The fabric is a fine, slightly sandy clay, fully oxidised resulting in an orangey-red colour, characteristic of Oxford Colour Coated Ware. Small areas of the red coat survive on the lip of the pedestal. The Oxford region was producing this type of pottery between c. AD 240-350.
