Silver thimble fragment. Part of the wall of a thimble made from sheet metal with a plain basal zone, above which the lower part of its wall is occupied by a series of vegetal curlicues and loops against a stippled ground, all framed by linear borders. The upper part of the wall bears machine stamped circular pits of diameter 0.7mm which appear as if rising in diagonal rows from right to left. The thin sheet metal used is typical of Victorian silver objects which, despite the intrinsic value of the material, are fairly common field finds, and which must therefore have been frequently discarded. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900.
