FINGER RING

Unique ID: DUR-9A7F0B

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete, but misshapen, cast copper alloy finger ring of probable post-medieval date.

The bezel is shield-shaped and has been soldered to the band. A join is visible at the solder point on the rear of the bezel, indicating the band was cast and folded to form the (now misshapen) hoop. Some patches of gilding remain on the surface of the finger ring, particularly in the vicinity of the bezel.

The metal has a mid brown patina, with patches of active green copper corrosion evident.

The finger ring measures 24.72mm long, 15.41mm wide, and 3.3g. The band is 5.49mm wide and 1.3mm thick. The shield bezel is 10.21mm long, 10.89mm wide, and 0.81mm thick.

Similar examples have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as YORYM-A3AAA8 and PUBLIC-9F7FCF.
