Medieval gilt copper alloy spur buckle with an oval frame and a strip pin. The integral D-sectioned plate begins with a pair of lateral projections flanking the pin hole and tapers, with straight sides, past a rivet hole to a stylised animal head which forms the inside edge and is pierced by a second rivet hole. the front of the plate is engraved with a herringbone motif that is now rather abraded. Very little gilding has survived. Length 50mm. Width of frame 15mm. Width of plate 7.2 - 5.1mm. 13th century.
