A medieval copper alloy figurative, flat mount with a separate rivet dating to c Ad 1270-1350. The mount comprises a convex shield shaped copper alloy mount which has been decorated with a face and topped with a decorative crown or hat. The face comrpises a mouth with lines running diagonal outwards from the nose (perhaps depicting a moustache) a raised nose and triangular eyes with eyebrows above and a rivet between them. The crown or hat comrpises three sections each with a central raised triangular shape with raised ribs either side. The 'neck' appears to be truncated. On the back, the mount is undecorated but there is a concavity where the face is depicted on the front. Above this there is a rim with the crown or hat standing proud on the front. There is evidence of the remains of the rivet protruding throught the back. The mount weighs 1.77g and measures 17mm in length, 12.44mm in width and 4.95mm in height across the rivet and the front of the face.
