A medieval copper alloy buckle dating to c AD 1350-1450. The buckle is complete except for the strap plate and includes the pin. The buckle is D-shaped in plan with an short extension outside the centre of the frame at the top with a central groove to hold the pin. The D shape narrows to create an offset strap bar. The frame is angled so that the inner and outer edges of the frame create a decorative rib in the centre. The back of the buckle is undecorated. The pin has a large loop round the strap bar and as it curves around at the front, it is decorated with two raised ribs before gradually narrowing towards the tip. The underside of the tip has been shaped with a slight curve to fit into the groove. The strap plate is missing but there is evidence of wear at both sides of the strap bar where it was originally positioned. The patina is dark green, with some light green marks. The buckle weighs 9.71g and measures 36.44mm in length, 40.62mm in width and 2.03mm in thickness. Cf Whitehead, R, 2003, Buckles 1250-1800, Greenlight Publishing, Witham p 20, no 70.
