Medieval lead toy in the form of a globular vessel, its body tapering to a plain rim. On one side is the remains of a narrow, strip handle, now broken. In this area traces of raised decoration in the form of narrowly spaced, longitudinal raised lines and two rings around the body. The vessel is now crushed but appears to have had a round base. Original Diameter 28mm, Length 45.5mm, Wall thickness 2.2mm, Mass 77.25g.
Medieval miniature jugs have been discussed by Forsyth and Egan (2005, 288-291) and dated by parallels made with full sized vessels. None of the examples shown by them directly parallel this vessel but a thirteen-fifteenth century date seems likely.
