A complete copper-alloy casting jet of probable Middle or Late Bronze Age date, dating c. 1550-750 BC. It consists an inverted sub-conical plug which bifurcates on its lower edge into two oblique circular-sectioned arms, flattened on their outer faces. Preserved in good condition with an even green patina, it survives to a length of 15.99mm, 15.47mm wide at its upper face, and c. 6.1mm thick at the midpoint of the arms. It weighs 17.38g.
Casting jets are waste products which form at the top of a two-piece clay mould when the molten metal has filled the object-shaped void below. As they represent re-usable metal, they were often retained and regularly turn up in base metal hoards of the period. C.f with PAS record BH-8DDE6E.
