A complete trapezoidal single looped buckle frame, of Medieval dating (AD 1300 to AD 1500).
The buckle frame and pin are both present.
The buckle frame is trapezoidal, with an expanded outer edge and a recessed and narrowed strap bar. The front edges of the buckle are bevelled, creating a convex shape. The outer edge has been decorated with seven raised rectangular panels, the outer ones are triangular. The area around these panels is recessed. The reverse of the buckle frame is concave and undecorated. The pin has been made from a triangular piece of sheet metal, wrapped around the strap bar. It tapers to a blunt point.
The buckle frame measures 17.4 mm in length, 27.1 mm wide and 4.7 mm thick. The pin measures 15.1 mm in length, 3.1 mm wide and 1.7 mm thick. Together both weigh 4.3 g.
The buckle frame is a mid to dark green to brown colour, with an even surface patina.
A similar buckle has been published as no 127 by Whitehead (1996) and a medieval date is suggested.
