A ceramic rim sherd from a Vessel of Roman date (AD 240-410). The sherd is from a Mortarium, possibly of Oxfordshire/Colchester ware. The fabric is soft with soft fired, fine grained fabric with a pale cream reduced core and oxidised orange surfaces. The fabric contains frequent angular quartz/mica/silica inclusions. The inner surface retains regular large lithic or shell inclusions. The rim has a small level bead with hooked flange and the inner surface retains regular striations from the wheel turning process.
