A Flint borer, probably Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, c. 3300-1000 BC. Worked from a tertiary flake of very dark brown/black flint with some grey/brown patches near proximal end. No striking platform survives, with a relatively diffuse bulb of percussion although with a bulbar scar. There are three flake removal scars on the dorsal face, all seemingly blade-like flakes, with two struck from the proximal end, both terminating in hinge fractures, and a third struck at a perpendicular angle, all three have relatively pronounced ripple marks. This last removal appears to have gone wrong, and produced a thickened section which has subsequently been used as the basis for the borer. Retouch at the distal end (short, scalar, semi-abrupt) has been used to create a right of centre notch to emphasise a triangular protrusion from the otherwise leaf-shaped flake. Further retouch on the right edge at the distal end (short, sub-parallel, abrupt) further emphasises this triangular protrusion.

The flake is 28.9mm long, 24.8mm wide and 6.7mm thick, the point of the borer is 7.4mm long and 9.6mm at its base, the flake weighs 4.76g.

Although a more secure attribution would only be possible with a larger assemblage, the apparent use of a hard hammer and multidirectional striking is suggestive of a later prehistoric date.
