A silver eagle of probable modern date (circa 1800-1900). The eagle is shown standing with wings outstretched. The eagle is depicted very naturalistically; etched lines and curves add detail to the feathers of the wings and the tail, and also the head. The eagle's head is slightly turned to its left, and in its mouth is a large wreath with two tastles below. The feet are missing.
While eagles in similar pose are known from the Roman period, the style and execution of this particular item is more appropriate in the 19th century. The item was probably used as a furniture fitting or as part of a larger decorative ornament.
