An incomplete cast copper alloy brooch of the La Tene III possibly Winchester type, Iron Age BC50 - AD 50. It is missing its pin, part of the spring and almost all of the catchplate. The item has the three sided shape of this type of brooch, the flat bow straight sided until the lower bend when it tapers rapidly to a point from where the catchplate appears to have risen upwards. This catchplate arrangement would not be typical and it is possible that the lower bend is coincidental and that the brooch is of the Nauheim type. The spring coils away to the left from the centre of the top of the bow, turns twice, then runs underneath towards the right hand side where there is an old break.
The outer part of the bow appears decorated but the metal is worn and mottled and it is not possible to discern detail. There are three transverse ridges at the point where the lower part of the bow bends inwards.
The item is 26.51mm in length, 8.21mm at its widest (the upper part of the bow) and weighs 2.58g..
