Object type certainty: Certain

A knapped flint side and end scraper of probable Neolithic date (c. 4000 - 2350 BC). The piece is broadly ovoid in shape and has been struck off a tertiary flake as it retains no cortex. The dorsal face, has evidence of two parallel negative flake scars from previous flake removals. While the ventral face, has a low diffuse bulb of percussion with widely spaced weakly defined conchoidal ripple marks suggestive of the use of soft hammer working (Bone or Antler). One of the mesal edges, has very neat short semi-abrupt sub-parallel retouch, running around its entire length. The distal end on the dorsal face, also shows evidence of long semi-abrupt to abrupt parallel retouch; indicating that the artefact is probably a side and end scraper.

The flint is dark grey in colour, with a large patch of light grey inclusion followed by a series of smaller off-white coloured inclusions and some white speckled inclusions. It is 29.15mm in length with a maximum width of 24.01mm and a minimum width of 22.53mm. It is 7.16mm thick, with a weight of 6.46g
