An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age La Tene 1Ba brooch. Only the bow and the foot of the brooch survive. The bow is circular in cross-section and has a mid-arch. It narrows slightly towards the reverted foot, the outer face of which is moulded into a zoomorphic form consisting of a rounded 'head' followed by an upturned 'snout' divided into two by a transverse groove. The lower part of the foot has a deep groove across its outer face forming a small catch-plate. It survives in fair condition.
The size of the arch suggests that this is a La Tene 1B rather than 1A brooch and the zoomorphic foot moulding places it within sub-type 1Bb. These date to the end of the early Iron Age, c.450-300 BC (Adams 2015, 1).
