LITHIC IMPLEMENT

Unique ID: BH-D1B5D0

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A flint core of probable late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. The core has a roughly semi-circular striking platform at the top and a bulb of percussion at the bottom. There are three narrow flake removal scars at the top, just below the striking platform, and a further small horizontal scar. The rest of the perimeter of the flint is unworked and it would appear that this irregularly-shaped core, which seems to have been for the production of narrow blades, was rejected fairly quickly. Portions of the cortex also remain intact. It measures 28.2mm wide by 17.2mm thick and 60.1mm high, and weighs 33.89g. The flint is patinated and varies between creamy white and light greyish blue in colour.
