An incomplete copper alloy Roman hair pin dating from the mid 2nd century to the 3rd century AD, of Group 14, sub-group A type. The pin consists of the head and part of the shaft. The head is a four pronged claw setting, which would have originally held a glass ball. One of the prongs is missing. Below the pin head are two rounded collars, the second one is slightly larger and has diagonal insised lines running down the collar. Below this is a large rounded knop, the pin then narrows to a circular shaft. There is a worn break at the end. The pin has a light green patina. It measures 33.5mm in length, 6.3mm at the widest point, and 2.9mm in diameter on the shaft.
Similar pins can be seen in Cool 1990, page 163, numbers 1 and 2.
