A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch, dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The brooch has a circular frame with a slightly rounded sub-rectangular cross section, with a small constriction to hold a pin, now missing. The front face is decorated with a series of roughly equally spaced shallow grooves, whilst the reverse is undecorated.
Diameter: 25.4mm, Thickness: 2.3mm, Width of frame: 3.0mm, Weight: 2.74g.
Egan & Pritchard (1991: 249, no. 1311) illustrate a near identical, albeit slightly smaller, example excavated in London from a context dated by ceramic evidence to c. AD 1270-1350, in general the group ranges from contexts dating to between c. 1200 and c. 1400 (ibid: 249-253).
