A complete copper alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) hooked clasp. The attachment plate is roughly triangular in shape with two v-shaped notches removed from the centre of each side dividing it into two sections. The outer face of the plate is decorated with lines of small engraved parallel nicks - a pair across the outer end and another pair in a v-shape across the lower end. There are three small circular holes through the centre of the plate, arranged in a triangle - two above and one below. A sharp hook extends from the lower end, curving round to the reverse. It survives in fine condition with a dark green patina.
The clasp belongs to Read's (2008, 21) early medieval Class B and can probably be placed within his Type I ('triangular/sub-triangular'). Read (ibid.) dates Class B to the c.8th to early 12th century AD.
