A cast lead alloy button of probably medieval or post-medieval date. The head of the button is sub-circular in plan and flat. The button is decorated with a long cross design with three pellets in each quarter, mirroring the reverse of a medieval long cross penny. A moulded border surrounds the motif.
On the rear of the object is the remains of an attachment loop along with a casting flash which also runs down the middle of the reverse.
Dimensions: 20mm in diameter, 2mm thick, 7.2g
Similar buttons are recorded on this database (for example WMID-430505, BH-273AB2 and BH-218F67). Bailey also illustrates a similar button (1997: 38), for which he suggests a date of 15th to 16th century.
