A complete copper alloy openwork zoomorphic mount, strap fitting or harness fitting of the Early Medieval period, probably dating from AD 1000 - AD 1100.

The object is broadly triangular. The front surface has been decorated with the head of an animal (wolf or dog) in profile. The upper edge of the object has one rounded protrusion on the left which seems to make up the ear of the animal, the top edge is curved slightly and has been decorated with a raised leaf shaped design with a raised oval at the at the end, this appears to be the animal's eye. The nose is formed of a triangular protrusion from the right and has been decorated with curved grooves, the mouth is formed of a triangular depression. From the nose the object angles towards a semi circular knop which then curves into a further, larger semi circular protrusion with a rectangular protrusion above. There is a U shaped gap between the two. The first has been decorated with a vertical groove, the second with a horizontal one. These protrusions may form the neck of the animal. There is a pentagon shaped perforation in the centre of the object. The reverse is plain and undecorated.

The object measures 20.2 mm in length and is 25.4 mm wide. It has a thickness of 4.3 mm and weighs 6.2 g.

The object is a mid to dark brown in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail. However the object is in good condition. A direct parallel could not be found at the time of recording, David Williams and Rob Webley of the Portable Antiquities Scheme have viewed the image of this object and have stated it probably dates to the 11th Century and the art style is Anglo Scandinavian in form. Dating is based on this information.
