An extremely worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy 'Umbonate' type plate brooch dating to the Roman period, c. 100-250 AD. It is sub-circular in plan and plano-convex in section, with a domed central plate that demonstrates ornate decoration in the form of one concentric rings of 10 long recessed inward-facing centripetal triangular cells which probably carried enamel inlay. This is now missing however. Around the edge of this central plate was probably a border consisting of a deep groove and raised rim that in places has broken away from the object, while projecting from one end is the remains of a sub-circular lug with a central small circular aperture, underneath which are the remnants of a double-lugged pin mechanism and axis bar. This is mirrored at the opposing end, where a second projecting lug (though with no aperture) serves to accomodate the original catchplate. It is unclear due to the incompleteness of this brooch whether knops on the lateral edges would have been present, as with some examples of this type.

A broadly similar brooch is illustratred by Mackreth (2011, vol. II, p. 111, plate 108, no. 11577). A similar brooch has also been recorded on the PAS datbase, see SWYOR-CB1490.
