A complete silver post-medieval finger ring (AD c.1500-c.1900).
The finger ring is broadly circular in shape. The hoop is plain and has a D-shaped cross-section. The bezel is an undecorated broadly D-shaped dome with D-shaped cross-section. The light weight of the ring suggests that the bezel is hollow. The inner edge of the bezel is warped, possibly as a result of post-depositional damage or a flaw during the making process.
The crudeness of the ring suggests a post-medieval date, but the ring is otherwise undiagnostic.
The finger ring has a internal diameter of 15.4 mm, and an external diameter of 17.7 mm. With the bezel, it is 18.9 mm in length and 5.6 mm thick. The hoop has a maximum width of 5.3 mm and a minimum width of 2.4 mm. The bezel has a thickness of 5.6 mm and the hoop (at the base) is 1.1 mm thick. It weighs 1.3 g.
Notes:
Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it cannot be securely dated to pre-1717 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
