A Medieval copper alloy single-looped buckle, dating to c. AD 1350-1400. An oval shaped frame with a D-shaped cross section and which widens to the slight point on the outside edge and with an off-centre incised notch on the front forming a pin rest. The strap bar is slightly offset and flanked by moulded knops, the bar itself having a more sub-oval cross section and a slight widening in the centre with a peak on the inner edge. A simple copper alloy sheet pin is wrapped around the cross bar, this is held only very loosely in place and, although its point is slightly damaged by a recent break, does not appear to have ever been long enough to reach the rest and may be a replacement.
The buckle frame is 17.3mm long, 23.1mm wide and 2.4mm thick; including the pin it weighs 2.34g.
The buckle is of Meols Type 4, dated by Griffiths, Philpott and Egan (2007: 84) to the late 14th century.
