Incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch of Mackreth's (2011) Type CD H. dating to the period c. AD 90 - 150. The pin, the foot and the catchplate are missing.
The head exhibits rolled cylindrical wings. There is a seam along the reverse of each wing. The wings house the iron axis bar for the hinged pin mechansim. There is a recessed pin slot in the centre of the head. The wings exhibit traces of a bead-and-reel design, with a diagonal moulding on either side of the bow at the junction with the head. The bow arches back from the head and is beaded. The bow terminates in a worn break.
