An incomplete copper alloy medieval D shaped buckle dating to the period AD c.1350-1450

As well as being D in shape, the loop of the buckle is D shape in cross section, with bevelled edges and a knop on the far edge. The attachment component of the pin is integral to the plate, but the rest of the pin is missing. The sheet of the plate is securely attached to the straight edge of the hoop with two small wraps of copper alloy. This sheet has two rivets, one near the loop, and the other near the break point. The sheet which is detached from the main plate has a circular aperture at the break point, and the rivet can clearly be seen through it.

The length of the buckle is 56.61mm in length, 26.41mm in width and 6.19mm in thickness. Overall. The buckle weighs 16.08g.

Please see Whitehead (2003) page 20, No. 74 for parallel.
