A worn Byzantine coin, possibly a billon aspron trachy nomisma of John II Comnenus (AD 1118-1143), second coinage, dating to the period c.AD 1122-1137. Mint of Constantinople. Cf. Dumbarton Oaks, vol. 4 part 1, pp. 248-249, 265, nos. 10a.1-10a.10, pl. IX.

Notes:

Item recorded in the field so the description and photograph may fall below our usual standard.

The appearance of the coin suggests this is potentially a genuine ancient loss, although precisely when the coin may have been brought to Britain is uncertain.
