A complete rim sherd of a wheel thrown vessel of the Post Medieval period dating from c. AD 1600 - c. AD 1700.

The rim sherd consists of a fabric similar to that known as Black ware, dating from the 17th - 18th century. The sherd is triangular in plan and rectangular in section. The exterior is a dark purple in colour. The interior is covered with a dark purple to black glaze, the glaze has small air bubbles in the surface. The top edge is rounded and the rim is D shaped in plan and there is a groove at the base of the rim, accenting the D shape ridge of the rim. The sides appear to taper out slightly. Suggesting this sherd is from a mid size storage jar or cooking vessel. The sherd has small light inclusions within the fabric. The vessel has been overfired resulting in bubbling on the surface

The sherd measures 32.3 mm in length and is 53.9 mm wide, it has a maximum thickness of 7.9 mm at the rim and is 5.9 mm at the base of the sherd. It weighs 16.0 g.
