Incomplete cast copper alloy rowel spur missing its separate attachment terminals. The spur sides are D-shaped in section and now both end in hinges formed of a collar from which project two transversely pierced lugs with a slot between to take a lug from the missing end pieces. The sides widen slightly to the crest (centre) from which projects te circular sectioned neck. The neck narrows from the junction with the crest then runs straight to the slightly widened rowel box. The box is short and slightly downward curved with a transverse piercing. The spur is undecorated.

The piece is now 49.7mm long, 51.5mm wise an 9.3mm thick and weighs 22.5g.

Read (1988:196) illustrates a similar example of a spur with a hinge, No.1384, which he dates to the 18th century. The hinge allowed the terminals to bend outwards so the same model could fit a wider range of boot sizes. Several other very similar examples are recorded on the database, including: CORN-36BD72, LVPL-C739BC, NMS-DB8D85 and GLO-F16487.
