Cast copper alloy sub-rectangular single loop buckle with concave sides with bifid mouldings and a narrowed strap bar. The pin is missing. The front of the buckle has a moulded pin notch consisting of a hollow raised V-shape with oblique grooves on either side of the V. There are a few patches of black lacquer surviving on the upper surface of the frame suggesting that the buckle was coated to protect it from corrosion during wear.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a very similar example on page 28, no.146 which is slightly smaller but has the same decoration and moulded pin notch. He dates this type of buckle between c.1500-1650.
