Copper alloy buckle plate fragment. Rectangular plate with a concave inner end and constricted and bent around a frame [lost], close to which it is broken. A drilled hole of diameter 3.6mm permitted the pin [also lost] to operate, leaving a nick in the outer edge of the hole; a further similar hole is set centrally on the plate with its edges pulled up by rough dismantling. A further four smaller apertures [of diameters 1.7mm-2mm] presumably include provision for fixing the plate to the strap. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1400.
