An incomplete copper alloy rotary key from the Medieval period, circa AD1150 -AD1450.
The key comprises of a hollow tubular stem with a broadly rectangular bit. The bit is possibly incomplete with one ward remaining that projects from a rectangular stem which has a rounded projection extending at a right angle from the base. The bow end of the key is missing and has a closed end terminal. The opposing end of the stem is hollow.
The metal has been cleaned and has a shiny brown to copper coloured patina. The key is 59.61mm long, 26.21mm wide and 6.21mm thick on the stem. It weighs 16.7g.
