CAME

Unique ID: NLM-6FF4C4

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Lead possible window came. A fragment of H section cast came from the meeting of four panes of glass. A gutter of width c.3mm is discernible on one of the arms of a crumpled X-shaped fragment. This indicates the approximate thickness of the panes, and would be consistent with a medieval date. The came is flat on one side, perhaps from partial melting, and is patinated. Medieval cast came is an unusual find, indicating the rarity of glazed windows in a rural setting. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Length: 45.9mm, Width: 37.7mm, Thickness: 8.4mm, Weight: 33.80gms
