An incomplete cast copper-alloy medieval D-shaped single looped buckle, dating to the period AD c. 1250 to c. 1400. The buckle is incomplete insofar as the pin is missing. The buckle measures 12.17mm in length, 15.65mm in width and weighs 2.02g. It is broadly rectangular in shape, with ornate outer edges and the frame thicker on the left hand side (5.44mm) than the right (2.21mm). The thinner bar would have had the pin, now missing, which would have rested upon the thicker bar. Approximately 3.63mm down the thicker bar there is a grooved recess, denoted by two transverse linear incisions, one either side of the grooved recess. It is within this recess that the pin would have rested. There are two knopped protrusions, one either side of the thicker bar as it blends into the rest of the frame. Another pair of knopped protrusions appear as the frame extends into the thinner bar. There appear to be three transverse incisions running parallel to one another on the thinner bar, but aside from this no further discernible decoration can be seen.

A parallel to this may be seen in Whitehead (2003) p21, no.84. Our example is more D-shaped in shape rather than oval, but it is likely to be similar to this example given.
